Common Myths

Myth #1: "Fire won't happen to me."
The Truth: It can happen in any building, at any time and does on a daily basis. Most fires are a result of a random chance. This is mainly due to the lack of fire safety and preventive planning. The fact is that most businesses that experience a fire thought that it would never happen to them. Business people know that the key to a company's success or failure is planning for any event before it happens. The same applies to fire or other emergency.

"Never put off until tomorrow what you can and should do today, because tomorrow may be to late"

Myth #2: "I can recover if it does happen."

The Truth: This is one of the most common misconceptions about fire losses. Fire can destroy your building, your contents (including irreplaceable business records) and your customer base because of the down time. Many businesses simply can not absorb this. Statistics gathered by the Association of Record Managers and Administrators in the United States, show that over 57% of businesses that have had a major fire never open their doors for business again. This is an alarming statistic, and is due to the fact that trying to manage the disaster, run the company, and rebuild lost property and clients is extremely difficult to do in the same breath. No business can afford to take this risk.

As a business owner or manager you don't plan on having a fire or other type of emergency situation, but if you fail to properly plan ahead and protect your property, chances are you will.

Myth #3: "I don't have the time to put a plan together, and I probably can't afford it."

The Truth: Our software is built around a Four Phase Agenda. This accommodates even the largest buildings such as office towers and factories. For smaller buildings, the whole process can be acomblished in a few days, including staff training (the actual plan development can take as little as a few hours once all the data has been collected). The upkeep of the plan then only takes minutes per week. People who have used the program remark that after a couple of months, their fire safety efforts become second nature. As for the cost, it is the most cost effective program available?

Think of it as an investment that yields huge returns by preventing a fire and protecting your investment and occupants.

Myth #4: "I already have a plan that meets all the requirements."

The Truth: From extensive research, it is shown that few existing plans meet all the requirements. By properly implementing our software, compliance is assured. You will be glad to know, however, that if you already have a plan but it doesn't meet all the requirements, it can be very easily absorbed into the program, no matter how comprehensive your current plan may be.

Even though our software provides a User Guide, which guides and educates anyone through the entire process. Some clients prefer a consultant do the work for them. Consultants can use our software to assist in their efforts. The software should then stays with the client to ensure that their fire prevention efforts utilized in the building stay alive and active.

Myth #5: "I have a fire alarm system and a sprinkler system installed. That's enough protection."
The Truth: No, it isn't. In fact, fire protection is only one side of the coin. Building occupants seldom know what to do in the event of an alarm. They become confused and disoreinted, because they don't know what to do. With minimal time, the program ensures that all supervisors and employees are trained in the proper evacuation procedures and fire prevention requirements for their building, and this is the only way to save lives. All eyes are now looking for problem areas. For this purpose, our Fire Safety Posters are an invaluable addition to the software program.
Prevention is the key to avoiding fire losses to property and life, and this is what the Building Fire Safety Planning System stresses. Fire Protection equipment is a good defence after a fire has begun, but no piece of fire protection equipment ever prevented a fire from starting. Maintenance of fire safety systems is covered in the software, as part of a
complete fire safety program.
